Norwalk is an urban/suburban city made up of unique neighborhoods, businesses, people, and cultures.

The Norwalk Historical Society is on the hunt for photographs, paintings, drawings, models, collages, shadow boxes, etc. representing DiverseCity in Norwalk for this juried art exhibition.

Jurors

Frank Bruckmann

Bruckmann is a well-known Connecticut painter and instructor at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC).  He primarily paints New England landscapes.  Frank’s work is represented by Kehler Liddell Gallery in New Haven. He studied at the DuCret School of Art in New Jersey and took classes at the Art Students League in New York City. Frank spent eight years painting and studying in France and Spain. Sherelle Harris

Harris is a member on the Norwalk Board of Education and Assistant Director, Norwalk Public Library.  She has worked as a freelance writer for a variety of magazines and written features for The Hour newspaper. Sherelle is a playwright and an award-winning poet.  She won first place in a Connecticut Commission on the Arts juried poetry contest and her first play was produced by the Stamford Center for the Arts. Lizzy Rockwell

Rockwell is an acclaimed artist and author-illustrator whose artwork can be seen in picture books, magazines, games and on walls. She is also the Artistic Director of Piece by Peace: The Norwalk Community Quilt Project.  Lizzy studied art and art history at Connecticut College, and drawing and illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Awards

Awards will be presented at the Opening Reception on  Thursday, May 22, 2014, 6-8:00pm at Mill Hill Historic Park, Town House Museum, 2 East Wall Street, Norwalk

1st place – $150, 2nd place – $75 + 19th century Norwalk map reproduction, 3rd place – $25 Norwalk Historical Society store gift certificate. All winners will receive a Norwalk Historical Society one-year individual membership

Judges and the show committee reserve the right to refuse any piece that does not match the image submitted. Final acceptance of all entries will be at the jurors’ discretion.

ARTWORK ELIGIBILITY:

Theme

The exhibit is designed to highlight the DiverseCity of Norwalk.

All works must be original (no reproductions or giclee) and never before exhibited at the Norwalk Historical Society.  May be any medium. Two-dimensional entries may not exceed 48” wide and 84” high including frame.  All work must be dry, framed, wired and ready to hang.  Museum edge canvases with clean edges are acceptable unframed.

  • All entries will be juried from digital images.
  • Digital images of accepted work will be retained by the Norwalk Historical Society.
  • Awards will be selected from the original works of art.

Fees

Artists may enter up to three pieces for a non-refundable submission fee of $25.  Fee payable via cash, check made payable to: Norwalk Historical Society or online.

Notification

Selected artists will be notified by e-mail on May 15, 2014.

Publicity

Your submission to the DiverseCity Juried Art Exhbition signifies you grant permission to the Norwalk Historical Society to reproduce accepted artwork for promotional purposes and your acceptance of all conditions stated in this prospectus.

Liability/Insurance

All art work will be handled with the greatest of care.  Artists submitting work agree to hold harmless the Norwalk Historical Society, their agents and employees in the case of lost, stolen, or damaged artwork.  Artists should arrange for proper insurance coverage for their work.  Entry to the show constitutes agreement with all of the conditions stated above.

Sales

All artwork should be for sale. The Norwalk Historical Society will handle all sales transactions.  The artist will receive a 70% commission for any sold art at the end of the show.  The remainder will support the Norwalk Historical Society’s educational programs.

Deadline

Art work must be submitted by Friday, May 9, 2014.

Delivery

The selected artist must deliver their artwork to the Norwalk Historical Society, Sunday, May 18, 2014, 10:00am-2:00pm OR Monday, May 19, 2014, 11:00am-6:00pm. All artwork must have identifying labels attached to the back of each, indicating artist name and work title.  All artwork is to remain on display until the end of the exhibit.

Closing/Pickup

It is the responsibility of the artist to arrange for pickup of art on Monday, June 30, 2014, 4:00 – 6:00pm OR Tuesday, July 1, 2014, 11:00am-2:00pm.

  • Information about the work: Work Title, dimensions, frame status (framed or unframed), medium, price
  • A brief personal artist statement (500 words max.) and bio in a Word format. Attach document.
  • Attach each image.  JPEG only, 300 dpi resolution. See Images Specifications for details.
  • Submission Fee:

  • Image should not exceed a file size of 3MB or 300 dpi resolution.
